Acharya Dr. Durga Das Basu, a scholar par excellence was National Research Professor, and has distinguished himself as a judge of the Calcutta High Court, Member, Union Law Commission, Tagore Law Professor and Asutosh Lecturer, and Dean, Faculty of Law, Calcutta University.
A recipient of the Padmabhushan in 1985, he has authored several highly acclaimed and well-established books on Law, the Commentary on the Constitution of India being his magnum opus. He was well versed in the study of the Vedas and Upanishads, and this book is based on his deep knowledge of and insight into Hinduism and its perennial teachings.
