DEBASIS DEB, Ph.D. (University of Alabama, USA), is HAG Professor in the Department of Mining Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. He graduated from IIT Kharagpur, India with a Mining Engineering degree in 1990. He received his MS and Ph.D. degrees in Mineral Engineering and Interdisciplinary Mining and Engineering Mechanics from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, USA. He worked at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), USA, and Korea Institute Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM), South Korea as visiting Assistant Professor and a Visiting Researcher, respectively. He is a recipient of the prestigious “National Geoscience Award” from the President of India. Prof. Deb has two textbooks and five patents to his credit. He is a lifetime member of ISRM, MGMI and ISTAM. He has completed several research projects related to development and applications of FEM, XFEM and SPH procedures in rock mechanics as well as undertaken mine wide monitoring projects with IoT and AI/ML technologies. He has published over 210 papers in reputed journals, and national and international conferences.
ABHIRAM KUMAR VERMA, is Professor in the Department of Mining Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. Earlier, he worked with IIEST Shibpur, Howrah followed by IIT (BHU) Varanasi as an Assistant Professor. He is a mining engineering graduate from BIT Sindri, Dhanbad (2000), Postgraduate in mining engineering with specialization in mine planning from IIT (BHU) Varanasi (2002) and Ph.D in Engineering from the Department of Mining Engineering, IIT Kharagpur (2007). Dr. Verma has received DST Young Scientist Award (2009) and IEI Young Engineers Award (2012) and is a lifetime member of ISRM, MGMI and IE (India).
He has published over 50 technical papers and handled over 40 sponsored and consultancy projects in the field of rock mechanics, soil mechanics and petroleum geomechanics. His research interests include the geo-material characterization and application of rock mechanics principles for design of rock structures, and his teaching interests include various topics of rock mechanics, fracture mechanics and rock dynamics.
