“The book meets the requirements of various universities of India for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. It also serves as a standard textbook to other competitive examinations conducted by UPSC and Public Service Commission of various states. It is also an incisive manual those appearing for UGC NET/SLET examinations. The book is considered to be very informative and helpful to every citizen of India, more so for students of Political Science. The language used is very simple.
This book is divided into 22 chapters. The sequence of chapters more or less matches the sequence of the corresponding parts in the written Constitution. Dr.Peu Ghosh stated her purpose very clearly in the preface. She chose to explain each article of the constitution drawing from the Constituent Assembly debates, the few decided cases and introducing a comparative point of view wherever relevant. The strength of the book lies in its focused content, which thoroughly analyses the political happenings in India and studies how the political institutions have emerged and changed since the end of colonial rule in the country.
