This book is aimed at providing the students with a sound knowledge of banking system in India. The text keeps abreast of all the theoretical concepts and practices of banking in simplified, explicit and elegant way, so that the beginners are able to comprehend the subject with ease.
Accentuating a systematic presentation of the contents, the book explores the details of money and banking, monetary policy, financial system in India, and evolution of banking including modern banking system and structure. The book also deals with present day commercial banking, development banking, co-operative and rural banking, central banking/Reserve Bank of India and Banking Regulation Act. G.S. Popli, Ph.D. (Business Administration), is a Professor of Banking and Finance, Delhi School of Business, Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies, Delhi. He has served at Oriental Bank of Commerce for more than three decades before moving to the fields of Academics. Dr. Popli is a CAIIB and CeBA qualified professional. Professor Popli specialises in Banking and Finance. He was conferred Delhi Udyog Rattan award by the then Industry Minister of National Capital Region of Delhi in 2008 for his contribution on SME Financing in India. He has more than 55 research papers to his credit, which have been published/presented in various international and national journals/seminars. He is also a regular visiting Professor to many Staff Training Colleges of the Banks and some premier Management Institutes of NCR Delhi.
ANURADHA JAIN, Ph.D., is Dean, School of Business Studies at Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS). At VIPS, she has an exemplary exposure of holding distinct positions of Dean Academics, Dean Examination, Chairperson of Anti-ragging Committee and Member of Centre of Intellectual Activities with great expertise. Professor Anuradha Jain is a Gold Medalist from the University of Bombay. Her areas of academic specialisation are international trade and international business and that of academic research is economics. She has been invited for various national and international conferences and has numerous research papers to her credit in diverse areas such as WTO and Indian agriculture, foreign direct investment in retail, sustainable development, Gandhian economics, etc. She has also been invited as a subject expert in economics in Selection Board for State Civil Services by various State Public Service Commissions.
